I watch the sky as darkness grows
Waiting for when the starlight shows
But though I wait and hours pass
No light appears at all, alas!
I finally know, the light is gone
And there is no approaching dawn
And stars are gone as well; I weep!
The darkness thickens, cruel and deep
No light is there and none to come
But still, I hold out hope for some
I will not let it slip away
Though it lessens every day
I cry alone, my fate appearing
As my hope is disappearing
When the stars are gone from the sky
No hope to live, no will to die
